Removable partial dentures usually consist of replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-colored plastic bases. A partial denture may have a metal framework and clasps that connect to your teeth, or they can have other connectors that are more natural looking.
Complete dentures can be either “conventional” or “immediate.” Made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has begun to heal, a conventional denture is ready for placement in the mouth about eight to 12 weeks after the teeth have been removed. Immediate dentures are made in advance and can be inserted as soon as teeth are removed. As a result, the patient does not have to be without teeth during the healing period. However, the bones and gums shrink during the healing process which could result in needed a reline and more adjustments then a conventional denture to achieve a proper fit.
